Wicked and Avenue Q are success stories. Both shows opened to mixed reviews. But lately these two shows are becoming the hottest tickets on Broadway.Have you noticed that the critics went back to Wicked and people who gave them bad reviews now call it a spectacle. I was reading a few updated reviews on Wicked the other day.It also was the 3rd highest grossing and capticity just a few weeks after it opened. For the past month it has outbeat the Producers only loosing to Lion King. Two weeks ago it was number 1. Wicked has become a triumph!
As for Avenue Q there has been progess in attention and reviews and is going strong, Although it isn't a top grossing show it increased to be one of the greatest shows.
These two shows are now proclaimed hits and started a new generation on Broadway and deserve a Congrats and a tony and a long run.
I'm so happy for both shows! I'm thrilled that Wicked is doing so well because Kristin and Idina were probably two of the first leading ladies who got me hooked on Broadway!!! (Kristin in Charlie Brown and Idina in Rent)
And I couldn't be happier for Avenue Q because it really is my favorite show this season and that entire company deserves every accolade they get!!!!!
The Best of Luck to them both and many many Tony noms too

Actually, I have not noticed this at all. Could you please refer us to these new, updated reviews that you have found that were written by critics who at first disliked the show but have since changed their minds? Links to these reviews would be very helpful. Also, you do realize that the word "spectacle" does not necessarily mean a good thing? As in, "Your Aunt Berniece made a real spectacle of herself at the wedding reception last night."
Avenue Q is the greatest musical this season but I think Caroline Or Change is a better show then Wicked.
My favorites:
Q
Caroline Or Change
The women in Wicked are outstanding and it is fun but I really don't love it. I do love Kristin and Idina's performance.
My favorite revival is still WONDERFUL TOWN.
I love the score, Donna Murphy, Gregg Edelman and Jen Westfelt.

Sorry, but calling a show "a spectacle" has nothing to do with the quality of the book or score. This rings true with Bombay Dreams too!
WT was a fun and fluffy show. Our only problem was we were in the Mezz trapped w/ the tour bus crowds. all they did was chatter on about "how sweet" "how cute" "what did she just say?"
Arrrgh!!! Sorry had to get that off my chest!

Avenue Q opened to mixed reviews? I was pretty sure it got good reviews, or at least ones that were less "mixed" than Wicked's.
It's good to hear that these shows are still doing good. We lost a lot during those winter months.
avenue q. it just wins. everything.
Oh how I love unfounded statements that start threads!
I haven't seen Avenue Q but after watching Wicked twice in a row, I can see how it is better the second time round. I can't explain it, but I wasn't that thrilled with it on the first night, esp the opening act, until Defying Gravity. It seemed like a lot of uppers and downers...first it's comedic, then it tries to pack an emotional punch. But the second act was more consistent, and the second viewing was more enjoyable. IMHO.
