Strangely enough, the Henson folks are actually okay with it. I think at one point they asked that Trekkie monster look less like Cookie Monster, but that's about it.

Although i loath stunt casting i think it works better in the movies. This is because you do multiple takes and you pre-record the songs. Stunt casting is worse whent its live b/c its soley on talent and they have to get it perfect the entire way through. In the movies atleast they can record and and to parts over and over again to get it right. I would love to have no stunt casting at all. If there ever is a WICKED movie in the near future get Idina Menzel or another talented actoress to play the part instead of a hollywood actress. but stunt casting elphaba wud be easier in the movies then live. If any of that made any sense!!

Don't forget pitch correction and other fun electronic methods of making mediocre singers sound good. :)

May be Marni Nixon will be doing the voice overs for some tone deaf hollywood starlet?

FORGET big name hollywood actresses (and actors) for movie-musicals. If you're gonna do it, do it right! Get the FANTASTIC broadway actresses that will blow audience's minds... not half-talented actresses that might make producer's an extra buck. Am I the only one who thought CHICAGO, the movie version, could have been even better (if it were cast with TRUE, HARD-CORE talent)? Am I the only one? I mean, the movie was OK... and I'm REALLY glad that people appreciated musicals again! But... I don't know...
(Example: Julie Andrews was originally Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady on stage. She wasn't a big name screen actress yet, so Hollywood cast Audrey Hepburn in the role. Hepburn couldn't sing it, so she had voice overs for all her songs. Same thing with Natalie Wood in West Side Story. Knowing that it's not them really singing ruins it for me... knowing that Hollywood is a sell-out ruins it for me!)
If they are gonna do it right, I'd LOVE to see more movie-musicals! I LOVE musicals, but I don't want to see them get butchered on screen.
WICKED, a movie? I'm PRAYING they get Idina and Kristin!

Well, Audrey Hepburn actually had stage musical experience, and she wasn't a bad singer- she just wasn't strong enough in Eliza's range. And Julie Andrews hadn't been in any movies yet. The decision to hire Hepburn wasn't atrocious. And let's face it, even though most of the leads were lip-synched, the West Side Story movie was a great success. Also, it's worth remembering that actors with great stage charisma can't necessarily transfer that energy to film. Movies are a different medium. Updated On: 5/4/04 at 01:31 AM
