Wicked understudies

Does anyone know how often the understudies for Kristin and Idina go on? is it a certain number of times per week, or only when kristin or idina need them to, or what? my friend is seeing Wicked in NY this month (she's flying from CA) and wanted me to find out what the chances are that she'll see Idina and Kristin since she's making the trip solely for wicked! if she called the theatre and told them the date she was coming, would they tell her whether or not she would see Idina and Kristin? Any help for what i should tell her to do would be much appreciated! thanks...

um.. understudies NEVER perform ona regular basis... THAT would be an alternate, and those are RARELY used (Christine in Phantom, Kim in Miss Saigon, certain "star" Aida"s).. understudies only perform during scheduled vacations and when a performer is ill... there is NO way to know ahead of time uless it is a scheduled vacation and given that both are billed above the title, you would have been informed of that when buying tickets or would have seen it in press because it would be WILL publicised given teh fact that they are billed above the title, thereby entitling you, the audience member, to a refund, shoudl you choose to take a refund and miss the show should they unexpectedly miss a performance.
