Buried in this fabulous article, besides talking about the ups and downs of Boy from Oz in transferring to Broadway, is this line:
>>"I'd love to do Pal Joey on stage," he says. "That would be great. I just feel as an actor I need to do both movies and theatre. Being on stage sharpens you as an actor. It reconnects you as an actor. It is hard work but it is a necessity."<<
Also, this intrigued me:
>"Hugh has been talking about wanting to do a big version of the show [Boy from Oz] in the big cities in America such as Washington and Chicago," he says. "I think it would work – Hugh is such a big star there."<<

Is Hugh Jackman THAT great a dancer? The original show (if you look at the score) had enormous dance sequences to take advantage of Gene Kelly's incredible terps abilities. If Jackman does it and they thin out the dancing, remove all the tap numbers and replace it with Vegas stuff, isn't that basically castrating a classic?
BTW, have you seen the silent footage of Kelly dancing in the original show, onstage at the Barrymore? He was as good onstage as he ever was in film. Amazing, it's all there, the tap, the windmilling variation he used in "American in Paris"....
Imagine what it must have been like to see him LIVE. For $3.20. Wow.
PS. I nearly died a few weeks ago, having spent the last 20 days in hospital. I missed you guys, missed the catfights and squabling and sniping (and the inspired commentary). Keep up the great banter. And I'm finally cured, so cut out the sympathy PMs, thanx.
"Will Hugh Jackman be doing Pal Joey"
In PJ's dreams...
Oh, you mean the musical, I'm hoping it is true

All I know is when I had a chance to ask him at the Sydney Entertainment Center stagedoor if there was a chance he might be back on Broadway in the future, that his reply was " There is a chance, I am actually looking into it".
However, with all his filming commitments, it's hard to tell when that might be.

I know there are rumors of him doing either Pal Joey or Leap of Faith, but I wondered if that Pal Joey remark had him favoring that role.

Or maybe a limited-run straight play ( maybe dramatic or classical theatre?)
He has mentioned a straight play as another Broadway possibility.
