I haven't been able to find a definitive number of the cost for the current SWEENEY TODD revival but I'm guessing it's got to be a fairly low number.
With the way ticket sales went after the opening raves and the way they're going right now, it seems the show is marching along at a nice pace.
Will this be the first Sondheim revival, in years, to recoup?

Posted: 1/8/06 at 6:24pmI hope that Sweeney Todd will stay on Broadway awhile it is an amazing show after this friday I will have seen it three times since it opened. I think if it keeps going the way that it is I think that Sweeney will survive the rest of the season.

Posted: 1/8/06 at 7:00pmI think that it will most definitely recoup. It is abolutely fabulous and every preformance is flawless. As a matter fact, I can't imagine it not recouping.

Posted: 1/8/06 at 7:18pmI strongly believe Sweeney will recoup. I stopped by the box office today to buy a ticket and asked how sales were. Today's show was sold out and the box office guy said that ticket sales were doing great. I have hope!

the budget of the production in $3.5 million.
After the production opened, one of the show's producers told Reidel that the producers did not anticipate a smash hit, but a critical hit that will support a modest run and a recoup.
I thought the expectation was fair. I hold onto my chair every week when checking the Broadway Box Office charts, but I guess that the producer will be correct: I imagine the production will run into the summer - at least through the Tonys - if the business stays above 65%, which isn't great but I imagine the nut for this show to be between $300,000 and $400,000 - which it has beat considerably each week.
I certainly hope it recoups. And wouldn't it be interesting to see if it plays past June and company members (namely the divine LuPone) start to be replaced...

Bernadette Peters should definitely replace her, someone teach her how to play the tuba.
If the show's original investment is indeed $3.5 millions, then it should recoup. I'm hoping the show will at least run until the Tony's, since it's relatively cheap to run, then I'm sure it probably can do an average 70-75% capacity/week and have a healthy run.
