You can print out the synopsis by going to Nonesuch.com (the CD comes with lyrics but no synopsis for what reason I'm not sure).

But as others have said, this is hardly a plot-heavy show - it's all character and the film and novella on which it is based are pretty famous. And yes, the character's child-like wonder in some of the lines sort of tips the hat ("a naked statue"!).
