Posted: 3/20/07 at 11:56pmDoes anybody know where I can the sheet music for Over the Rainbow? I'm pretty sure the Judy Garland movie sheet music is not the same as the Broadway version. If the sheet music isn't available, does anybody at least know what key it is in? Thanks

First-
There is NOT a Broadway version. The show has not played on Broadway, only Off-Broadway at the Theatre at MSG.
Second-
Aside from what is published in the Easy Piano version you will get the same version of the song in ANY Published format, which is key of Eb (I think, it's 3 flats, and I haven't needed to read them in a while.), and they feature the verse.
Third-
Are you using this for an audition? If you are thinking about it, DO NOT DO THIS SONG. Unless you are 100% Proof Positive that you will do this BETTER than Judy Garland did it, it will be suicide. And especially if you are auditioning for the show itself.

The reasons I say it's suicide are:
1) Over done. It is usually a safe bet, at most auditions that it will be done at least once, if not more.
2) It's too linked to Judy Garland. You wouldn't walk into an audition and sing "People" for the same reason. As I've said, unless you know for a fact that yours will be so different that those casting directors (or whomever) will be blown away, don't do it.
On a seperate note, this is one of my favorite songs of all time, but very easy to screw up.

Oh I don't quite agree that "Over the Rainbow" is so linked to Judy Garland, that it shouldn't be performed.
Its been recorded by hundreds of artists and frankly, the teen set are probably going to identify it more with Katherine McPhee than Judy Garland. It's a great standard. Do it well if you are going to perform it, obviously - but from a director's standpoint - I'd rather have ten people come in and sing "Over the Rainbow" than two people sing "On My Own."

Posted: 3/22/07 at 12:31amThanks & my bad. I knew MSG wasn't Broadway, I just wasn't thinking. I know better than to use this for an audition(actually it's not for me & I don't sing anyway), but this is for a WOZ audition & I know they'll probably have those who are called back for Dorothy sing it. I have the MSG 1998 cast recording & the key Jessica Grove sings seems higher than the movie version which is why I was wondering what key the score is in. Since I'm not a singer & don't read or play music, my untrained ear can't tell the difference in keys between the 2 versions, other than one sounds higher than the other. The person this is for is out of town at the moment or I'd just have them sing it to test the keys.
