I recall sitting in the Palace Theatre in London a year ago last September and watching WIW. Next to me was an American family from Massachusetts visiting their daughter/sister who was going to the London School of Economics.I was seated next to the daughter who chatted to me during intermission.
After the show was over and we were making our way up the aisle to the exit,I overheard the father declaring to his family how much he had been moved by the eloquent performances and particularly by the beauty and delicacy of the music.The mother responded in kind and said that she couldn't wait for it to go to New York and see it again with friends who lived there.
The father responded by saying that he didn't believe it would be a success on Broadway because it was too elegant a show and that it would do better in an opera house where people were much more used to thinking and listening.
I for one enjoyed the show very much and hope to see the Broadway production very soon.
