Woman in White and Howard Stern Show — Page 2

Jo, I did like the show in both London and NY. However, they are tapped out as far as cash to market this dog and can only spendwhat they have budgeted already. Stick a fork in this baby and find a new one to root for.

I liked it! I don't see why people really hated it, or want to "make fun" of people who enjoyed it.

Also, did anyone read those newspaper reviews that said the projections make you dizzy? I didn't get dizzy and really couldn't see how they could make anyone dizzy!

On another related thread, someone has mentioned that there is a scene in the show at the Palace Theatre ( with "I Believe My Heart" in the background) featured in the upcoming Woody Allen movie which drew raves in Cannes called MATCH POINT ( starring Jonathan Rys-Myers and Scarlett Johansson). I have also read about this previously. Hey, maybe people will be curious enough about the stage musical to come and check it out on Broadway or in London

I think the biggest problem with WiW is not the score, weak as it may be. Its the source material? Was ANYONE on here surprised at ALL by the "secret"?

The novel is absolutely wonderful, and quite different from the show (which I also really enjoyed) in many aspects. The "secret" is more of a surprise in the novel, because a couple of things are different there. Additionally, the secret would have been a huge deal for the Victorians who first read the novel. Nowadays, the "secret" is not a huge deal to us, but in Victorian England it would have been quite shocking.

The novel is also much a more a detective story than a love story. It's really about Marian trying to solve this mystery. The show has one throwaway line about Marian solving the mystery (very early on in the show), then kind of becomes a love story. The novel focuses a lot more on the mystery element than the show.

agreeing with AdamGreer- I just finished the book, and it really was a lot more in-depth than I expected. At times it seemed as though it would end differently just because there are still so many more twists and it's so suspenseful.

And, yes, maybe the secret isn't a huge deal and you can see it coming, however, the story is still a lot more intruiging than SO many other shows. Woman in White is driven by its plot and deep characters and emotion... not JUST the score (which I see some people don't like...) which is still saying A LOT about it (I think).

Vinnie - sorry to sound as though I pick on you but then you probably thrive on that kind of publicity. Anyway I want you to think about the audience "Jersey Boys" draws and then the audience "Woman in White" draws (much older in years). Now think about the transit strike and think which group would be willing to HIKE into a theater to see a show. You not only insult the show but it's audience as well. Why would you want to do either??

Rebekah, when the show closes with a complete loss of its investment will you then understand it was not a success? Is it not possible you don't see this show is getting smashed while JB is a hit? Why focus on the transit strike week? It is about to be trying to hang on EVERY week for WIW. It's a pretty good show, but has no mass appeal. Thus, why it is a flop, despite having the ALW name to it.
