anyone know any alternates that are better then the girls who are cast as the role??
And this may seem like a dumb question but, Why are girls switched out? Like one girl does night performances and another does the matinee. does it just mean that their voice cant handle it? I dont see any guys that have alternates.

Wow I totally had a blank reading your post..probably because I'm odd and don't ever think as leading ladies as girls...
Right anyhoo
I think it depends on the show really...

The only female role that I can think of that does a regular rotation is Christine in Phantom, I would assume because it's incredibly demading.
There's a rotation for the lead singer in Movin' Out, as well; that's a male role. It's a lot to ask of someone to sing an entire show, almost two hours straight, virtually alone eight times a week. The dancers in the show also alternate.

Posted: 8/22/05 at 3:36pmI know when Seussical was on broadway the Cat in the Hat was an alternate on Wednesday nights (and i think Saturday Matinees) I know it was probably cause that was a pretty demanding role... But I mean, if there is no Elphaba alternate (thats GOTTA be hard on the voice 8 times a week), i dont think there needs to be any alternate.
