i came into the city this summer. and saw a tuesday night show thinking. "well hey, its tuesday night matinee maybe murphy will do this one.".. since i read on bwayworld.com before that donna murphy does a couple shows a week and isnt very puntual. well, going with that i took the shot. i walked in the door, and the guy apologized saying "donna murphy is not in this performance".. but.. i wasnt gonna leave or anything. i wanted to see the show! and i had 2nd row center... well anyways. after sitting in the theater, reading the playbill and sort of bumbed donnna wasnt in it. the curtain came up and the show began.
i was blown away. now this is definatly not one of my favorites. it just seemed like a typical musical to me. sort of like millie. or something i dunno. linda was amazing! she had so much timing, and skill. she played the role with such poise. i was sitting in front of a crowd that came back to see the show, hoping to see donna again. and i over heard them saying. she nailed it, better than donna. i felt it was worth the money.
plus ben stien was there =)
