I saw the first preview this afternoon--it was lovely. Donna Murphy is really good in it--very different than one might expect from her. She's very funny--I have much respect for her work even more now. (She will definitely be nominated, and will likely win her 3rd Tony). I thought that Kathleen Marshall did a great job directing and choreographing.

I get the feeling that this and Never Gonna Dance are going to be the surprise hits of the year. =)

While I agree that Donna is great in the role, it will be Idina or Kristen that take home the Tony for Best Actress.

Glad to hear this news. It still has a chance for Best Revival.

I was just at Donna Murphy's IBDB.com page and saw that she was in "The Human Comedy!" HAHAHA!! The show that played a miraculous 13 shows on Broadway in '84. I did a production of this show in 2000 in the role that Donna Murphy understudied on Broadway, which is kind of exciting...although I doubt she ever got to go on in it. :P The production I was in was supposed to go off-Broadway in Oct 2000 - Betty Buckley was behind it and was all excited about it - but nothing ever came out of it. I think they did a concert version in NYC in 2001 but that was it.

not sure but i think SINGAPORE was off-B'way. Who remembers? as well as who was the star? she played her own accordion as well. Amazing show.

Could this be the surprise sleeper hit of the season?

After a tryout at the Cleveland Playhouse, a new space at Irving Plaza (off 14th Street) was created just for "Song of Singapore". Even though it did well for a while, it was the first money-loser for the then-fairly-new-and-very-hot Richard Frankel organization.

There were some rights problems after the show closed and it didn't get to play in as many places as it might have. It is still occasionally revived including recently in England.
