Posted: 2/21/04 at 7:01pmI know everyone must be sick of these type of posts but, which production should I attend (both would be entirely new to me.) Thanks a lot.

Posted: 2/21/04 at 7:04pmDo you want a rosy, cheery outlook on life (Wonderful Town) or do you want a grim, morbid outlook on life (Sweeney Todd)?

I have not seen this version of Sweeney yet. But Sweeny is a magnificent work. One of my favorites but it is not for everyone as it is very dark.
Pass the meat pies.
Wonderful Town is a valentine to NYC in the 30's. One is light and sweet the other is deep and dark and an opera.
Come on a Wed or Sat see Sweeney at a matinee and Wonderful Town in the evening.
Problem solved.
(I saw the incredible Dorothy Loudon in Sweeney she was incredible wish she was still here. At least we still have Stritch)

Posted: 2/21/04 at 7:19pmI'm not a Sondheim fan and I have friends in Wonderful town, so I'd had to say WONDERFUL TOWN.. plus the steam whistle always scares the **** of me at Sweeney

Posted: 2/21/04 at 7:31pmThe chance to see Sweeney with the full orchestration is kind of rare these days (and with the full underscoring, the piece has all of its spooky grandeur). And it's here for a very short time, in a production that is based on and features scenic elements from the original Broadway production. I'd go with Sweeney.
