I know everyone must be sick of these type of posts but, which production should I attend (both would be entirely new to me.) Thanks a lot.

Do you want a rosy, cheery outlook on life (Wonderful Town) or do you want a grim, morbid outlook on life (Sweeney Todd)?

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Thanks, but I only have one day in the big apple!

I must advise you to attend the tale of Sweeney Todd. (Sorry...I couldn't resist)

I have not seen this version of Sweeney yet. But Sweeny is a magnificent work. One of my favorites but it is not for everyone as it is very dark.
Pass the meat pies.
Wonderful Town is a valentine to NYC in the 30's. One is light and sweet the other is deep and dark and an opera.
Come on a Wed or Sat see Sweeney at a matinee and Wonderful Town in the evening.
Problem solved.
(I saw the incredible Dorothy Loudon in Sweeney she was incredible wish she was still here. At least we still have Stritch) Updated On: 2/21/04 at 07:16 PM

I'm not a Sondheim fan and I have friends in Wonderful town, so I'd had to say WONDERFUL TOWN.. plus the steam whistle always scares the **** of me at Sweeney

The chance to see Sweeney with the full orchestration is kind of rare these days (and with the full underscoring, the piece has all of its spooky grandeur). And it's here for a very short time, in a production that is based on and features scenic elements from the original Broadway production. I'd go with Sweeney.

GO TO SWEENEY!

"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

Sweeney! Wonderful Town may be around for a bit longer, so you'll have other chances to see that.
