re: Worst Theatre lobby

I don't really like Studio 54's lobby.
My fave is the August Wilson's because it is so roomy and they play the cast recording :)

re: Worst Theatre lobby

Gah, the Shubert is teeny!

I gotta hand it to the Gershwin, though. As my cousin said, that place is pimped.

re: Worst Theatre lobby

Avenue Q's John Golden Theatre lobby I think is one of the worst. Also, I think RENT's Nederlander theatre isn't terrific- but, as someone said..it sort of goes with the theme.

Whenever I go see Avenue Q, I never ever use the bathroom. It's not a 'bad bathroom' but the line is always so long; I go to the next door restaurant to use the bathroom. re: Worst Theatre lobby

When I was at Wicked, at intermission, I tried to be one of the first ones out- and I thought I was...until I saw the bathroom line. Women started going into the men's bathroom until an usher told them they couldn't.

I think MTV should make a new show, just dedicated to Broadway.

Pimp my theatre.

re: Worst Theatre lobby

I'll say it again. When these places were built, the street was the lobby. Nobody wanted to stand around inside, they wanted to lord around outside, then enter the theater as the overture was played. That was a long, long time ago.

re: Worst Theatre lobby

The St James and The Shubert. Although they are prestigious theatres, they lack a lobby. The Ambassador Theatre doesn't have one, either.

The Majestic, Imperial, Palace, and the theatres on 42nd St all have great lobbies.

re: Worst Theatre lobby

I remember being surprised on my first trip to NY years ago that the theatres there had virtually no lobbies. You walk in off the street into a narrow vestibule, and then bang you are in the auditorium.

As another poster said, one of my favorite things about the Shubert is that its a tiny lobby, you walk in and Bam! You walk into one of the most beautiful theaters in the city. Love it!

Dont like the Imperial lobby. Just too small for me. But I love the Palace lobby.

re: Worst Theatre lobby

I'm not sure where I read this but the owners wanted small lobbies so they could open the doors and the passerbys would see the star taking a bow at the end and the crowds cheering.

re: Worst Theatre lobby

I think the Richard Rodgers is awful. When I saw Tarzan I ended up pinned against the merch stand because the upstairs had not opened and everyone was standing around the steps which are to the left. This one older lady positioned herself such that she was practically sitting on my wheelchair's armrest I was tempted to elbow her in the a$$ and people in front of me where endlessly examining the program. Its not a small lobby but it certainly isnt designed with flow in mind.

re: Worst Theatre lobby

Is the Ambassador Theatre Lobby smaller than the John Golden Theatre?
