Wow, someone listed Wicked and The Wedding Singer as the worst shows ever - interesting because these were my two favorites in all the shows I have seen. I can see why some people may not like the wedding singer, not everyone is hopped up on the 80's like myself but Wicked? Two of the strongest threads currently on here are The Wedding Singer and Wicked/The Elphaba Question.
As farr as my worst shows go besides Lestat (which was awful awful awful),I would have to say Little Women and Chicago.
And I feel bad for Bklyn because it was the worst storyline I have ever seen with some of the most talented people I have ever seen. It's a toss up!
THE CHAIRS, 1998
CHU CHEM, 1989
SUNSET BOULEVARD (whatever year Betty Buckley starred, and sang off-pitch throughout)
GREASE, 1994
MAIL, 1988
SWEENEY TODD, 1989, "Teeny Todd"
LEGS DIAMOND, 1989
Cryano the Musical, this was the 90's lestat. Awful in every way, and they chatged full price for the previews.
I still morn the loss of those 3 hours after all this time.
I have yet to see a show that I've hated. However Chitty Chitty Bang Bang wasn't up to par. But it's a favorite of mine.
CATS: In the middle of "The Naming of Cats", wherein the kitties were out in the house and molesting the audience members, my friend turned to me and said in full voice "What IS this sh*t?" My sentiments. Exactly.
THE FIVE O'CLOCK GIRL: Good Lord. Remember that sequence in the film FUNNY LADY, in which all the technical elements go awry? That's what happened when I saw this show. The only redeeming thing about it was getting to see Pat Stanley on stage.
LEGS DIAMOND: A godawful mess. But it was campy, in a tragic sort of way.
BLACK AND BLUE: They could have cut an act out of this one and been fine.

MAMMA MIA
And I love ABBA's music. The book was a piece of ca-ca. It reminded me of a bad "Love Boat" episode. Because the book sucked so bad (trite, amateurish and formulaic beyond belief) I had a hard time enjoying anything else - singing, acting or technical. I practically threw myself off the mezzanine during the "Scuba fins/wedding dress dream sequence." Absolute dreck.
Actually to be fair I should say everything in MAMMA MIA except the last 10 minutes was the worst Broadway show I ever saw. The finale, with its campy ABBA costumes, concert lighting, etc sorta worked OK (in a "everybody clap your hands kinda way"). Had I not been so disgusted with the previous 2+ hours I might have actually enjoyed it.
Personally, I would have dumped the entire book and made the whole show more like the finale - a spectacular, multiple set concert extravaganza.
Spamalot (such a bore!)

I thought that BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was absolutely soul-crushing, which completely suprised me, because I adored the movie. I felt so bad for the chap playing Lumiere. He was milking his lines for all they worth just to try and get the audience to laugh, but damn if it didn't fail miserably.
LESTAT was awful, but memorably so!
I've more-or-less found something to enjoy at every other show I've seen, but those two ...
Cats. ( I know everyone says that but I really hated it!)
The Real Thing (both of them)
The Lunchtime Anxieties (off bway. I walked out)
Metro (remember that one?)
I'll add to this as I look through my old playbills)
