The movie by Terry Gilliam, based on the 18th century novel?
I think it would be quite eccentric or Pythonesque. They'd need someone big or eccentric to compose the songs. And who would play Baron?
Well, the movie, for all of its visual brilliance and epic scale, is really tough to sit through, I think.

Absolutely. But it still, in ways, reeks of a massive mega-musical. It could've really been made into something huge in the 80s. It'd either be a mammoth Starlight Express or a spectacular flop. But I think it has the premise, the original novel at least, for a major musical comedy adventure

Maybe if Spamalot succeeds they can bring this out?

I wanted to know your opinions, because I've been working on a version for over three years. I hope it gets done someday. It's amazing how no one else (to our knowledge) thought of doing this :)

OOOh. That's good. Keep talking. More and more ideas plz !
I love this movie...but I think it may be too involved to be made into a musical. It would require a lot of trimming back and I'm not sure it could survive...but, of course, they're trying a LOTR musical...

Oh my,Lord of the Rings?
really?
Much discussion of the idea..don't kmnow it it'll happen or not. You're new, I guess you missed the threads about it a while back
I think it's a great subject that would fly over the heads of the standard Broadway audience (tourists). The ending would prove to be quite difficult to work out as well as Eric Idle's character (how do you stage someone who can run that fast?). The film was not very successful to begin with, but I've always loved it and would welcome a musical version.
