There's another thread, I believe, about this - and I know there is a Playbill article about Directors with multiple shows on Broadway...

In the last couple decades, can anyone name a year when a writer/composer had more than 2 shows on Broadway?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Well Stephen Schwartz will soon have 2 shows once Godspell opens...other than that I can;t think of anyone who has MORE than 2....that would be quite an accomplishment though!

For better or worse, I think the most recent such case was with Frank Wildhorn in 1999. He had Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and The Civil War all running at the same time, albeit briefly.

At oune point in the late 80's, ALW had 4 shows on Broadway - Phantom, Cats, Joseph and Starlight, I believe.

Sondheim currently has Gypsy and Sunday in the Park, though he only wrote the lyrics for Gypsy and wrote lyrics and music for Sunday. Updated On: 2/15/14 at 02:10 PM

In the summer of 1953 Rodgers and Hammerstein had 4 shows running on Broadway: the original productions of SOUTH PACIFIC, THE KING AND I, ME AND JULIET and a revival of OKLAHOMA.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

The most Lloyd Webber had has been three. But he did it six times:

1982: Cats, EVITA, Joseph & the ...
1988: Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Starlight Express
1990: Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love
1993: Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Joseph Revival
1994: Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard
2000: Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar Revival

And if you want to get technical, Frank Wildhorn had the three already mentioned in 1999, but also had two shows running in Jekyll & Hyde and Victor/Victoria for a small time in 1997. Updated On: 5/13/08 at 04:36 PM

Always nice to see appreciation for the greatness of ALW and Wildhorne. Has anyone had a chance to listen to his newest show yet?

If I'm not mistaken, at one point Neil Simon had BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, THE ODD COUPLE and STAR SPANGLED GIRL playing at the same time. Maybe LITTLE ME was also running.

Jerry Herman had Dollly!, Mame and Dear World all running at the same time.
Sondheim (and Prince, Bennett and Aronson) had Company and Follies running at the same time.
