This is almost a follow up on an earlier post I had, but for those new people, I 'm going to NYC in May and my friend and I are seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Beauty and the Beast....I want to see 2 more, she only wants to see one more.....
Can you all give me some suggestions....We were thinking DRS, The Lion King (I've seen it and loved it), CHICAGO, 700 Sundays, The Producers and La Cage......We were looking for something with a student rush, but it doesn't have to be....
Also, for anybody who has bought a student rush ticket to the producers, where were your seats??? I've heard they may be obstructed view ....
I'm most interested in your opinions of 700 Sundays, La Cage (current production) and The Producers (current production)
THANKS!

Definitely "DRS". It's so funny and the performances are wonderful all around.
"700 Sundays" is amazing, if you can get a ticket!

I'll DEFINITELY agree with ZippyJen on Avenue Q (We saw it together
)
You can get $65 tickets for La Cage on Tickemaster. Use password NYTTW3.
Check out www.theatremania.com closer to the time you're going to get awesome discounts. Most of the ones up now only last until March but if you check before you go..you'll be in luck.
Then again...you can always rely on TKTS but you probably aren't going to get tickets to those you mentioned at TKTS. As for 700 Sundays...VERY HARD to get tickets to.
And Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is supposed to be great. I'd also suggest All Shook Up or Spamalot.

My first choise would be BROOKLYN, The Musical (a big daaaaaa)
- where you can get great student tix for $25 day of... Brooklyn is 100% fresh.
Then, I would say All Shook Up maybe? That musical defenantly
worth your time. If you go, get the $19 FRONT balcony seats.
And La Cage.. was nice. Not much, but nice. If you really want to
see it, then go. You'll have a fun time. If you do go, get the $25 last row Mezz. seats. They are not bad but you can move on
weekdays to the front mezz. without any problem.

That's odd about the SRO and Student rush deal...
Billy Crystal: 700 Sundays
Type: Student Rush
Price: $26 per ticket
Amount: 2 tickets per person
Type: SRO
Price: $26.25 per ticket
So Doesn't this mean that the student rush is $26 (seated)
and the SRO is $26.25? because they list the type before they list the price....

First off, I have to say 700 Sundays is absolutely amazing. My friend and I went a while back and it is one of the best shows on Broadway right now. Although it is not the big, flashy Broadway show tat is so fun to see, it is an outstanding performance. Sadly, it may be sold out, unless you can buy the standing room ahead of time, which I heard they were doing for this show.
As for big, flashy shows...I would highly recommend La Cage. I was not so sure I would enjoy this show, but I left way more than satisfied. It is the best show I have seen this year (that being 2005...and I have seen 15 shows already). I already have tickets to see it again next week! I never go see a show more than once so soon! Anyway, the show is so colorful and fun...plus I was very moved by the plot of the show. Almost had me in tears by how moving it was at times (mainly Gary Beach's Act One finale). And one final plus...last row seats in the balcony are only $25 and are excellent. The only minus to these seats are at one point, the speakers got extremely loud, and you could really only hear the chorus. Tickets should also still be available...Have fun deciding!

You know, to be honest, I wouldn't bother with Chitty. Unless you really really really want to see it for some reason...
I found it to be the biggest dissapointment. Terrible...

Well we've already got tickets for it up on row C. Honestly, I think Chitty is my favorite movie musical of all time. It is really the musical that defines my childhood. I'm sure there will be differences, but I'm very interested to see the show anyway (even knowing it will be different from the film in some ways). Are you talking about the London production? I didnt think it was even in previews in NY yet....But thanks for the comment!
(these are really helping guys, I appreciate this so much, I can't say enough about the people on here, you all are great)

Yeah - I'm not trying to be mean or anything - I saw it in London (twice...don't ask) and I was just really disappointed (both times...seriously).
But in NY it could actually be good, I suppose.
Fingers crossed, I hope you enjoy it and let us know!

Posted: 3/10/05 at 9:16pmI rushed the Producers and the seats in my opinion weren't that bad, though some others have disagreed. I think I sat like six seats into the right on the second row. I thought the seats were fine and worth the price. The only problem I had was for certain scenes, "King of Broadway" comes to mind, a dancer would be on the corner of the stage near you, blocking the center of the stage where Brad was. But other than that, I still enjoyed the seats and preferred them to at least rear mezzanine.

Were your tickets in the ORCH section for the Producers??

I think I've narrowed it down to Producers, La Cage and DRS.
I love Gary Beach! I Love the Soundtrack to The Producers and I think John Lithgow is hilarious!
HELP haha
