I just purchased this CD and really enjoy it, with one exception: why didn't they cast a Lucy (Ilana Levine) who could sing? Her voice is quite annoying (unless hers was one you had to experience in the theatre).

I believe it's a character choice, an annoying one albeit, and Ilana can actually sing quite well.

It is a character choice. The original Lucy had an annoying voice, too.

Thanks for clearing that up. I think there's a way to sing in character without being so um, "screechy". Everyone else on the cast recording seemed to use their voices in character but weren't difficult to listen to.

that's how Lucy sounds.....even in the OBCR. When we did this in Germany, I specifically looked for a Lucy whose voice grated on you.......it's who she is.

Lucy is supposed to be an awful singer. It's got to be an annoying voice or it doesn't work as well.

I thought Ilana Levine was fine in the theater. Not the highlight of the production, of course (though heaven knows we've heard enough about HER to last a lifetime!), but very character-appropriate.

I'm probably in the minority of people who find this Cd mostly unplayable. Cheno's new song is fun, and Roger Bart is enjoyable, but I find the rest of the cast to be annoying (and a tad too old). I love B.D. WOng but he is so bland on this recording. Anthony Rapp seems to think he's still in Rent. Most of the score seems to have been "pop-ized" which doesn't work. I'm not a huge fan of this score to begin with, and much prefer the more hummable Snoopy!!!.

The only songs I can listen to are My New Philosophy, Happiness, and the Book Report. Other than those, I don't really like the cd.

And then, do you know Monseiur Marius, I believe I was a little in love with you.

I liked "Beethoven Day". With the original version, I have played Snoopy twice already, but with the new "Suppertime" I can't get cast cause I can't whistle or scat that well. But I did do the new version as Schroder - and think besides "Philosophy" that Schroder's new song is the best.

I agree that B.D. Wong was bland on the recording. My favorite Linus is still the original guy.

I agree with you Bobby I can't stand to listen to this recording. I thought Kristin's new song was great until every 14 year old community theatre diva started singing it non stop and now I can't listen to it at all. Too bad because there were some good performances.

When I saw this, the theatre was only 1/3 full. I felt very sad for the actors. It closed shortly thereafter.

They should revive Snoopy!!! with more age appropriate actors. It's a great score.

Isn't age appropriate actor for this show like 5 or 6?

As a big Rent and Charlie Brown fan, (this is embarassing)I can't believe I listened to the YAGMCB cd forever and never realized Anthony Rapp was Charlie Brown. I saw his name on the back of the cd one day and had a big DUH moment!

Last year I saw a community theater's production of YAGMCB and it was very enjoyable! The Lucy had a great voice, but her character was still appropriately annoying.

If we get an age-appropriate cast for Snoopy, let's get them to perform Really Rosie in repertory.

I mean actors who don't look like they're in their 30's/40's.

I second the whole getting a Lucy who can sing idea. Her voice is supposed to be annoying, yeah, but you can't tell me she's supposed to sing out of tune. I forget which songs it's on but you can single her out in quite a few spots for being either rhythmically off or out of tune and it really bugs me because the rest of the cast is so great.

IdinaRocks, I totally concur. Our drama club performed this in high school and our Lucy had a great voice. It's funny because some 20 some odd years later, I can still hear her rendition of the songs. I had no idea that was Anthony Rapp as Charlie Brown. I thought he came off very good (at least on the CD). I love, "A New Philosophy" and this is the only time I've heard it, with the exception of the 1999 Tony telecast.

I've seen You're A Good Man very well mixed with Snoopy (pretty much taking songs and bits and characters like Peppermint Patty from Snoopy and keeping most of Your A Good Man) which works really well with large casts. I think they should publish a version with a larger cast written in (as almost no regional productions do it with only the core people anyway.) It would make everyone's life easier. Haha.
