Stu Hamstra has announced in today's nwsltr that "THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM LAUNCHES YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION"

The winner gets a contract for a 2-week engagement in the Oak Room in early 2006. The competition will be limited to vocal artists under the age of 30 with a background in musical theater, cabaret or jazz, whose work embraces the Great American Songbook

The deadline for submitting material is September 15, 2005. All submissions become the property of The Algonquin Hotel and will not be returned. Through August 21st, inquiries can be directed by email to Anthony Melchiorri:

woahh thanks so much for posting.


when they say materials do they mean like a cd headshot and resume? and the 2 week contract is to ..perform at the hotel?
is 16 to young to enter? i have been studying music at the New england conservatory and am very involved in professional theatre. thanks so much again for posting...im always on the lookout for new opportunities! :)

Don't know about the age range. You can get an answer from the contact person there by emailing him.

"Entrants are required to submit a comprehensive biography, including training and professional credits, an 8 X 10-inch photograph and an audio-tape or compact disc recording of a solo vocal performance of at least six songs with accompaniment by not more than three instruments. Reviews and commendations may be included but will not be a major factor in judging."
