Brooks really is working on this idea according to the article below.

Lightning rarely if ever strikes the same place twice.
I'd be careful, very careful every step of the way with this one.
Moss Hart said, "Nobody learns anything from a hit." Wise words indeed.

Posted: 11/4/03 at 3:37pmI think I'd rather let the movie stand as a classic. Hard to imagine that it wouldn't follow The Producer's formula, and the hype alone would kill it.

Posted: 11/4/03 at 3:55pmI'm not sure if it will work either but I must admit I like the pairing of Chenoweth and Brodrick.

Posted: 11/4/03 at 3:58pmThe danger here is the fact that the score to this show will have to hold up as a real musical score whereas 'The Producers' had the subtextual advantage of being a musical about a bad musical and, at times, allowing the joke to seep into the real world of the characters. 'Young Frankenstein' won't have that advantage.

I think someone should sit Mel down and have a serious talk with him. THE PRODUCERS was a fluke. Now that the original cast has left, audiences are seeing this show for what it's really worth--and that ain't much.
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN just might work if a real Broadway composer (like Jerry Herman) was called in to do the score. The score to THE PRODUCERS may have delighted the public in the theater, but the OBC doesn't hold up to repeated listenings. It's musical meringue.
The smoke and mirrors are gone, Mr. Brooks. It's time to admit your weaknesses and allow others who have talents in certain areas contribute their talents to the project.

Namo& Roxy~ Don't make me get the hose!
BTW, why does Brooks need to make this a musical? Haven't we had enough misplaced music randomly plopped in a potentially good story line? Why not do a straight stage comedy of Young Frankie? Ah...it worked for Wilder,Kahn,Boyle & Feldman.
Yours for more comedy and drama these days! Give your vibrato a rest.
