Posted: 4/28/09 at 11:46pmIt's a perfect storm. Billy received great reviews, and it's a huge hit. If it DIDN'T win great musical, it would be the greatest upset in Broadway history.

Posted: 4/28/09 at 11:55pmis Billy Elliot actually "new"? I mean, come on. It's more like a "revival"....just here on Broadway for the 1st time. I have not seen it yet and I can wait. What about an original musical winning again?? N 2 N ?????

so, were you trying to answer me like a mature intelligent person knowing we are both fans trying to have a discussion or just being loud with petty sarcasm?
can we take a vote?

Posted: 4/29/09 at 9:09amI think Billy Elliot has every right to be considered a new musical because it's never been done on Broadway, has an original score and book. Granted, it's been running in London for over three years, but it's still new as far as the New York theatre is concerned.

Billy Elliot is just as new to Broadway as Cats and Phantom were when they opened here and became new musicals for Tony Awards in their opening years. Are you saying that only shows that are being seen on Broadway for the first time ever should qualify? That would automatically disqualify N2N since it's already appeared both off-Broadway and at Arena Stage in DC.

B.E. is the favorite, though that doesn't mean it deserves to win.
I personally think the choices are very poor this year.

I agree that the choices are very poor this year.
The best new musical I saw this season on Broadway was [title of show], which unfortunately had too short a run.
If I had to choose one of the currently open shows as Best Musical, I would pick 9 TO 5.
But BILLY is going to take it. It's a touring dream come true. That show is going to make TONS on the road.

Posted: 4/29/09 at 11:25pmBE and N2N are possibly the two best shows I've ever seen and one of them will def. win. BE is the favorite but I wouldn't be shocked if N2N caused an upset (what a supid term that is cause I certainly wouldn't be upset lol) Hair was also brilliant (like beyond brilliant) and has revival in the bag.
