Hello citizens. I have been busy doing all kinds of searches on flights and hotels for my upcoming June 10 -- 13 trip to NYC. I usually try to get the lowest rate possible, depending on location of course. In years past, I've stayed at the Washington Jefferson and the Da Vinci. I was surprised to find out that the Da Vinci is sold out during my planned travel days. Of course, it's also a 20 room hotel, mind you. During my last trip, I had some significant walking to do, all the way from West 56th near 8th, down to the theatres around 45th St. I decided to book a room at the Econo Lodge on West 47th. My walking distance for theatres will diminish considerably. Plus, I can still go to that neat little eatery... the Cosmic Diner on 8th Avenue. I figured that since hotels (affordable ones) tend to fill up fast, I decided to act now rather than wait. I'm definitely planning to see Miss Patti in "Gypsy". I'll try to see one show on the Tuesday, two on Wednesday and one on the Thursday. I'm debating whether to see "Wicked" again.. having seen it in SF, Dallas and on Broadway. Anyway.... on a sour note.. should I be at all nervous about the possiblity of actors and producers being at each other's throats around that time? from RC in Austin, Texas... t.p.l.f.

Posted: 12/4/07 at 7:09amI couldn't exactly tell, but generally those can be cancelled especially this far out. It was just a suggestion. The Edison's in roughly the same area and it's not an EconoLodge. Those just creep me out. In general.

I will be making my annual/semi-annual trip to NYC in March. There will be SO MANY new shows by June I can't imagine you seeing Wicked again.
Also, www.tripadvisor.com provides invaluable hotel information if you weren't already aware of it.

I've stayed at that EconoLodge before when it first opened. It was fine but the downside was that the staff would not hold luggage at all.

I stayed at Econolodge in May 2007. Female traveling alone. Thought it was fine. It's location is superb. It was clean. Felt safe. Really did the trick for me. Of course, the rooms are tiny, but I spent very little time there. So it didn't matter. I would definitely stay there again if I were traveling alone again. I'm going back Memorial Day weekend, and I have reservations at Radio City Apartments. I've always wanted to stay there - low price for mucho room - but must reserve way ahead. I made my reservations in October.
Anyway - just a thumbs up for econolodge!

I also stayed at the Econo Lodge back in May 2007 and had a wonderful stay! Great location and friendly staff. We arrived at the hotel around 11:30am and they had a room for us ready, which was nice because check in time was later in the afternoon. The rooms are tiny, but you'll probably never be in your room that much.
I think you will be very happy there! Enjoy your trip!

I'll be going to NYC on the 13th leaving on the 16th. People have recommended the Edison Hotel, I will have to agree! I stayed there last year and will be again this trip! Last year I spent a whole week there, and with roundtrip airfare, it came to a little under $700, this trip since it's only three nights it should be cheaper. I've always done my booking on Expedia, usually a two to three months ahead. I've even found some great deals on Travelocity, but their prices don't stay consistent.
