Where exactly did they come from? I seem to remember reading (somewhere?) that pre Zorba revival, they used to mount classics that toured for school audiences. Can anyone clarify this?

There is a good book about David Merrick 'The Abominable Showman' by Howard Kissel. Well worth a read. He at least was something of a showman, though an asshole. Trouble is these days shows are produced by accountants.

Fran and Barry come to you from the world of children's theatre. They had a company called National Artist's Management Co (NAMCO) which still exists as an entity and is the booking arm of their office. I think their producing arm was given the lofty title National Theatre Company and did shows like Jack and the Beanstalk under the TYA contract for years. Barry was one of the writers/signatories of the original TYA contract with Equity and bragged about that often. He would then proceed to break the rules that he wrote right and left, and then deny that he did and not pay for the infractions.

My show with them had to go to arbitration to get our money. Equity really came through for the low-paid members on that one. Like any organization AEA has short-comings, but don't let anybody say they didn't take the Weisslers on and win.

If "Bran and Farry" were to read this, they'd be thrilled at all the attention they were getting. I'm serious. The egos are that huge and unguided.

They belong in Happydale.
