I wanted to hear what each of ya'll thought about each award and why. All of these threads are so confusing with people just sticking their opinions about certain awards in here and there. Here's mine...
Okay, so I am still fuming from the Tonys tonight!!!!! I am livid!!! I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight, I am just so pissed off!!!
BEST MUSICAL
I would have rather "Wedding Singer" won over "Jersey Boys!" I hate jukebox musicals, they're unoriginal and when I go to the theatre, I do not want to listen to the songbook of a famous band or singer. I want to see a clever, witty, thought-provoking show like "The Color Purple," or a funny, ORIGINAL musical like "The Drowsy Chaperone."
BEST ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL
There is a God!!! LaChanze FINALLY got the recognition and praise she deserves. SHE'S AMAZING!!! And as much as I love Patti and Sutton, I'm ecstatic that LaChanze won.
BEST ACTOR IN A MUSICAL
John Lloyd Young over Michael Cerveris? Personally, I think not. Michael Cerveris is amazingly talented and I would choose him over John Lloyd Young anyday. And I'm still mad that he won, and Alan Cumming didn't even get nominated!
BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL
I was relatively happy with their choice. My preference would have been 1) "Sweeney Todd," 2) "Threepenny Opera," and 3) "The Pajama Game." "Pajama Game" is my least favorite, but still a good show in my opinion, so I wasn't totally disappointed.
BEST FEATURED ACTOR IN A MUSICAL
I much would have preferred Manoel Felciano or Brandon Victor Dixon. Christian Hoff was an okay choice I guess, but I think Manoel worked so hard in "Sweeney Todd" and that that Tony belongs to him.
BEST FEATURED ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL
Although I did not get a chance to see "Lestat," if Carolee Carmello was as great as she always is, that award should have been hers, but I don't know. I do feel, however, that Elizabeth Withers-Mendes should have won because she was absolutely stunning as Shug in "The Color Purple." I wouldn't have been disappointed if Felicia P. Fields had won either, but I was really rooting for Elizabeth.
BEST DIRECTOR OF A MUSICAL
Very happy that John Doyle won.
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
Pleased with the choice.
BEST BOOK OF A MUSICAL
I do think this should have gone to "Color Purple." It's such a wonderful story and has some beautiful quotes, although they were all taken from Alice Walker's amazing novel.
