Well, I'm seeing this in a few weeks and I figured I'd continue the tradition of starting a thread about the newest Mint production.
Has anybody seen this yet? I'm particularly interested in this production given that it is a world premiere (and also because it features the gorgeous Max von Essen).

I saw this today, and was a little disappointed. It gets the usual terrific Mint production -- the costumes are especially striking, and Max von Essen looks great in them -- but I found the play itself kind of didactic. It reminded me of a Shaw play in which the characters are not so much flesh-and-blood people as mouthpieces for the positions the script calls on them to espouse.
Early in the first act, it's mentioned that the couple who are the main characters have two young children. Those children are never mentioned again, but, at random times during the play, I found myself wondering where they were and who was taking care of them. I'm aware that a couple who live in the country and keep "a room in town [London] for occasional use" would probably have a nanny for their children, so I'm not suggesting that this is a major structural flaw in the play, just mentioning it to show how my mind wandered because I wasn't fully engaged by what was happening onstage.
In short, not a terrible evening in the theater by any means, but not (in my opinion) up to the best things the Mint has ever done.
