A guy who was grossed out by having the "esophagus-cam" forced down his throat is suing Blue Man Group because the camera was covered in blue paint and other sticky, gooey stuff from the floor before it went down his throat.
When I saw the show, I assumed that it was just a pre-recorded video to make it appear that the camera went down the guy's throat. But this audience member claims it really did go in his mouth. That would gross me out too.

Posted: 2/3/08 at 2:38pmDo you really think that they shove a dirty, paint spattered camera down a random audience member's throat at each show?

I think that this guy is nuts. There is no way that the Blue Man Group actually shoved a camera down his throat. I have seen the show several times, and even taken part in the "Getting a Closer Look at the Audience" sketch. Their camera, which is quite large, could never fit down someone's throat. Actually, to my knowledge, it never even touches the person's mouth.
The "footage" of the camera going down a person's throat is a pre-recorded video. It is the same in every show.

A friend told me last year that one of his friends is in the Phantom orchestra, and this guy was able to get workmans' compensation because the chandelier somehow hit him. I told my dumb friend that a pit member getting hit with the chandelier (or anyone for that matter) would have been big news.
My favorite part of this Blue Man Group story is how this guy found a doctor who was willing to say he had a "contusion in his esophagus"

People will sue for anything... At least this case has basis IF it actually happened. It's better then the "McDonalds made me fat!" excuse.
On another note... WHY would they want to show what's down someone's esophagus? It's not ER or House...

I'm no BM fan- I've seen only enough of the show to know I could never sit through the whole thing. But the Chandelier thing is the perfect analogy. It's a show, the camera is OBVIOUSLY a stage effect just like the helicopter in Miss Saigon. This guy is either nuts or broke.
And incidentally- I hate crap like this- I go to a show to watch THEM perform and hate it when they do Audience Particpation. This guy sounds like he never should have been there in the first place.

Or both.

Posted: 2/3/08 at 6:48pmI went to see Les Miserables and the revolving turntable made me dizzy. I can sue because they have no warning sign posted in the lobby saying "This show contains a revolving turntable which may cause dizziness and motion sickness in some audience members."

My friend has epilepsy and we went to a show a while back (not on Broadway). They used strobe lights and had no warning. Immediately after they began using them, she had a seizure.
She didn't sue.
