I seem to remember that there was a musical about Ziegfeld that was to do a national tour a few years back. Anyone recall seeing this? Did it happen? Any info is appreciated.
I don't know anything about a stage musical about Florenz Ziegfeld but I can recommend the 1936 Hollywood film entitled "The Great Ziegfeld", starring the wonderful William Powell. The production numbers surpass that of any other Hollywood musical and there are numbers by actual Ziegfeld stars such as Fanny Brice, Will Rogers, and Ray Bolger. The film, over 3 hours long, is very entertaining.
Co-incidentally, I am listening to the OBCR of "Funny Girl" as I am writing this.
Ziegfeld's life story would make an excellent (huge) stage musical... and I nominate Patti Cohenour to play his wife Billie Burke (on the left with Hepburn).
The resemblance is uncanny.

There was A show called Zeigfeld which flopped badly in London in the 80's starring Topol and Len Cariou (though not at the same time) and had a big Z logo. More info can be found at this fan site:
Thanks! Apparently, the US national tour bought 170 of the 300 costumes from the London show which were designed by Theoni V. Aldredge. I couldn't find out who starred in the US tour...anyone know?
