Thats awsome. I always try and keep at least one costume from every show I'm in. I buy em, steal em, whatever.
I would love to hear what some famous Broadway stars have gotten to keep. That would be facinating.

"After the bway Seussical closed, I'm sure much of it was put towards the Nat'l tour, but not everything"
Actually, the costumes were designed by a different designer for the tour (In my opinion, the costumes were horrible in the tour). I'm not sure about the sets though.

"this is kinda random, but along with theatre...what about movie costumes?? Like LOTR...they are all just sitting in storage...thousands and thousands of props and costumes..what i wouldn't give to be let loose in there for an hour..."

Movie stuff gets recycled or put in the stdios wardrobe department in storage. SOmetimes producers will rent out sets and costumes of there closed shows to regional and stock companies. Or they sell the entire physical production to theater companies and after tey are done with them they rent them out.
Kiss it baby. Kiss it now!

Haha, EponineThenadier, I do the same thing! Well, not necessarily costumes but I try to take a piece of something from every show I'm in. I was just in My Fair Lady as Eliza and kept my lesson book, coin purse, and Brighton ring ;0).

"Dinner at Eight" sold the set pieces after the show ended at an auction held on stage at the Vivian Beaumont.

For movies and TV there's always Reel Clothes. There are other places like this in California but I can't think of the names now.

The producers own the pieces, and can do whatever they want with them. I'm not going against anything anyone has already added... but it's usually a few people with the things in their garage or storage space!!
I'd imagine that after a Broadway show closes, unless it was a HUGE hit and the producers made all their money back (which is rare these day) they'd keep things in the event of a tour, etc. Otherwise, I think it's a great idea to sell things for charity - - or to help repay the show's original debt!!

Bernadette's costumes from "Sunday in the Park" were used in the D.C. production.
Glenn Close has it in her contract that she keeps all her costumes.
