I went to AMDA and graduated. I had a great experience there. I do know, however that some people have had horrible experiences there. Sadly, it's most likely that they are not talented enough to continue on with their career(but not always). Yes, AMDA does accept a lot of people that won't have a chance, but they also select incredibly talented people...and wouldn't you considering the amount of rent they probably pay at the Ansonia! The main thing I took away from that school was how to audition... When I left I was completely prepared to audition in "the real world". All of the teachers still work outside the school at theatres all over the US. In fact, a few of my friends got their first professional jobs from teachers at the school who directed summer stock. They know what they're talking about. I definitely recommend it, but like every school, there is a chance you may not like it.... just my 2 cents re: amda???

The most unfortuate thing about this place is that they prey on those who have a dream but lack the talent to persue it. As LuvsWarhol states, AMDA does accept many students who don't have the ability to persue this as a career. What legimiate school would go out of their way to accept people who haven't the ability?

Simple answer: a school that's out for tuition money. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I just want to add that going to a non-theater driven school doesn't mean you can't do study theater for those four years. I go to a liberal arts university in a large city and the school's theater dept is a joke, but if you are in a relatively large city, there are plenty of great places to take acting classes and audition for all sorts of things. Also, definitely go and visit amda and other places for yourself, you never know what's right for you until you actually see it. Personally, I would rather have the experience of auditioning for four years, but that's just me. Good luck in whatever you choose!
