the nature of david's relationship to jonathan is considered complex among most serious (objective) biblical scholars. while "gay" (the notion of constitutional homosexuality) as most people think of it today is generally regarded a modern social construct -- or certainly not something recognizable to the ancients -- same-sex relationships of course have been around since before the greeks invented them!!!

charpentier's music is certainly beatiful, and the staging is sure to be, er, interesting. not sure about the production values -- honestly, they could be phenomenal or they could be a disaster -- but the "workshop" a couple of years ago apparently was solid. seems like it deserves a little more publicity ...

... i'll probably head over to BAM next weekend to check it out.

I thought this was a reference to the Broadway Beauty Pageant lol. I think it was Joe Komara who did a song from what he afterwards called "A Big Gay Opera" which is apparently coming out. I'm fairly certain it was a joke though.
