Nicole was hysterical in "To Die For." She won a much deserved Golden Globe for her role in that film.

Saw Something's Gotta Give tonight and may I say that it ranks up there with Down With Love as one of the worst movies I have seen in recent memory. Jack Nicholson has become a tired caricature of himself and while I adore Diane Keaton she was completely misdirected in this film. This is one of the most frothy and formulaic movies I have ever sat through in a movie theater. The crying/laughing rampage that Keaton goes on towards the end of the movie which could have been sincere and touching was simply overblown and tiresome. The dialogue is ridiculously unintelligent and by the time we reach the end of the movie (which is far to long) the resolution is past predictable. How this movie or it's actors are being considered Oscar contenders is beyond me.

Also saw Mystic River recently which may also be one of the most overrated movies of the season. While the performances are good (Sean Penn in particular) the movie includes so many twists and turns attempting to confuse and manipulate the audience that it left me without a care in the world for the characters or their situations. With it's ridiculously contrived plotline even Sean Penn couldn't save this movie.

Want to see a truly brilliant movie than see Lost in Translation which is a wonderful movie with some of the best performances of the year. Updated On: 1/2/04 at 01:15 AM

TO DIE FOR is the film I was thinking about. Kidman was best in that.

Kidman won the Oscar last year for playing against type. Will that happen two years in a row with Theron? Or could Kidman possibly win back-to-back Oscars? She is awfully good in Cold Mountain.

I just saw "Cold Mountain" this evening. Both Nicole and Renee turned in wonderful performances. Renee's Oscar is in the bag. Her performance was dead on. I enjoyed Nicole's as well. She's a fabulous actress who I believe was able to spread her acting wings after seperating herself from Mr. Cruise. Her performance was great, I hate to use that adj. but I'm at a loss of words at the moment, and she could possible win another Oscar this year. But I don't look for that to happen. If anyone should or most likely will win for this film, it's Ms. Zellweger. And all I have to say about that is..It's about damn time.

BestofBway: read my post on the Off-Topic board, about the way the theater is portrayed in SOMETHING'S GOTTA... I'd love to hear your thoughts. This movie is loaded with synthetic elements, and nothing is faker than its Burbank-centric view of the NY theater and the realities of writing plays and having them produced.

Your points are well taken.

That is also one of the many reasons I hated the movie. The way they used the stage production to forcast the future happenings on the bridge was over the top. I think the play is actually what helped to make the movie so unbelievable and unlikable.
