Jennifer Gambatese will replace Kerry Butler as Penny in the Broadway Hairspray. Gambatese is an original cast member who appeared in the ensemble and understudied Butler; she left Hairspray to appear in A Year With Frog and Toad.

Ok, not to harp, but when the role becomes available, I would like to see Alli play Penny and, for some reason, I would like to see Jessica gove take on Penny. I think she would be great.

ummm. Go to Laura Bell Bundy's site. She has some photos from Hairspray taken from the audience and there is one of Amber and the girls (including Jenn) during the gym class scene -- Adam Fleming is in the background, automatically making it a must see photo. On the website, it is a small photo, but if you right click and save it, it is actually pretty big.

Funny thing is, when Jenn was in Hairspray to start with, she never went on as Penny -- Kerry never missed as how. It wasn't until after Jenn left that Kerry missed a show, her SCHEDULED vacation, and Brooke tansley and Hollie Howard played it.

I must admit, I have been a bit biased for Jenn since FAME!. I wish they would offer Brenda to Alli instead of putting her on the tour. Once again, Jessica Grove!
