Michael Mcgrath is Patsy in Spamalot and was in a ton of other stuff too! He is soooo like times infinity underappriciated! IMO he should have won the tony just because he plays Patsy so awsomely....awsome!....So this topic is all about him!

Posted: 4/3/06 at 11:40pmMichael McGrath is an excellent performer who I always enjoy watching. My favorite Michael McGrath moment was during a preview of the off-Broadway revival of The Cocoanuts. He was playing the Groucho Marx character and, in the spirit of re-creating a Marx Brothers performance, he would often ad-lib with the audience. Before doing The Cocoanuts he was Nathan Lane's standby in Forum. So at the performance I saw, he makes his first entrance, looks around the theatre and says, "Wait a minute... this isn't the St. James." I don't think many people got it, but those who did were on the floor laughing.

I adore him. :) Anyone who can nearly steal the show as Pasty really is amazing. When I saw Spamalot he looked by far to be the one having the most fun. He seemed so genuinely honored to be there, even after almost a year of performances.
Everytime I watch the Tony performance I always crack up when he's doing the dancing and turns with that backpack. Soo funny. :)

Posted: 4/4/06 at 7:28amI personally think Michael and Christian Borle are the stars of Spamalot. I'm hoping that they stay through the end of the year. I have tix to see it twice (mainly for their performances!) Michael's singing, dancing and facial expressions are priceless-----

Posted: 4/4/06 at 8:05amHe's awesome as Patsy. Unfortunately I haven't seen him in anything else to comment. I did ask him how long his contract was and he said until July but hinted he might extend.

Posted: 4/4/06 at 11:36amI adore Michael. I first saw him in My Favorite Year back in '92 (with, not coincidentally, Tim Curry). At the performance I saw, he went on for Evan Pappas as Benjy Stone, and was absolutely wonderful. I never forgot him, and was delighted when I saw he was cast in Spamalot...in which he was, once again, absolutely wonderful.

Posted: 4/4/06 at 2:11pmCabchic----you made my day! Just knowing that I should get to see Michaael at least once more (tix in May and September)is a huge relief. (Now I have to worry about Christian Borle---my other favorite in Spamalot) Didja hear any news about him?

I've beome very appreciative of Michael's performances since I first saw him in Spamalot and every time I've seen it since he's never failed to deliver. Plus, he's a really lovely guy and I would be very interested in seeing him in whatever productions he goes into in the future. (And the same goes for the hugely talented Christian Borle who I've not yet had the pleasure of meeting).

He's a genuine performer. I've been lucky enough to see him in Spamalot and last week in Is He Dead? And he one of those actors who isn't THE lead, but steals the show none-the-less.
He's adorable I love him.

LadyoftheLake- I, too, saw him go on for Evan Pappas in My Favorite Year during a very early preview, at the last minute,
WITH book,
nervous as hell, embarrassed (cause evidently there had not been understudy rehearsals yet), but slid into the performance and MADE the audience adore him! Probably the most horrifying thing an actor EVER has to do. I applaud him and have enjoyed his many performances since.

Posted: 3/30/08 at 8:49amI didn't realize Michael went on for Evan Pappas more than once in My Favorite Year! I saw him after opening, sans book, and if I hadn't been informed that he was the understudy, I probably wouldn't have ever known it wasn't his usual role. It's funny - my one and only fan letter for the past 20-plus years was sent to him during his Spamalot run, and I mentioned that I'd seen him go on for Evan Pappas. He was kind enough to write back, and his reply made it sound as if it had been a one-time thing. At any rate, and with absolutely no disrespect intended toward Evan Pappas, I wish Michael's performance as Benjy had been preserved on the OCR.
