**sigh** here we go again.. this is gonna be some thread
~ No such as thing as "backstage passes".. this ain't a concert hun
~ mailing list huh?? No...
~ You will only get back there if you know a person in teh show
~Be there is NO reason to go back there.. it is cramped, you can't really go anywhere. They aren't gonna let you wander around aimlessly...
~Backstage is like someone's home.. you don't just randomly go up to a strange and ask to come in
~ Don't even THINka bout begging some poor actor to take you back there

thats cuz the stage door guy at hairspray is really nice, it was really cold and there werent that many people waiting anymore since Clarke was like the last person to leave. You were lucky, what happened to you is a rarity.

I got to be backstage for quite some time during the recent run of "Noises Off" on Broadway... and that is a show where you need to contain yourself, alot of action. But meeting that cast... Peter Gallagher, Patti LuPone, Faith Prince, et. al. was one of the highlights of my 25 years on earth.
It is not an amazing space, but the wall vibrate with history and greatness

I got to go backstage at the Shubert in December. It did seem pretty cramped. I did get to meet Bernadette, and they only let us in b/c:
A: We were the only one's waiting during the blizzard
&
B: It was freezing and they felt bad for us.

I shall NEVER reveal my secrets..
Besides, I want to do filmwork. Therefore I am 100% heterosexual.. even more so than certain actors who are the same height as me and sue people for $10 million for saying they like bois...

Posted: 1/14/04 at 11:29pmThere is really no such thing as a backstage pass not that I have heard of. If you know someone in the show you are put on a list that is given to the doorman. Whoever is on the list is taken to the stage and then waits there for the person they know to give them a tour. But I have never heard of and actual pass being issued to someone.

PJ, who let you backstage at the Shubert? Man or woman? I'm curious if it was a friend of mine...
Speaking OF... Backstage at the Shubert is practically my home away from home. I spend FAR too much time there for my own good. And actually, the backstage area of the Shubert is hella bigger than the backstage area of the Ambassador.
It easier to know someone in the cast in order to get backstage... all the shows where I have been backstage it's either been because I had a friend in the cast or I was working on the show in some form or another. Practically lived at the Cort last year when Hollywood Arms was open... Damn I miss that show hahaha
And no, there are no such things as "backstage passes" but I believe there used to be a tour (perhaps the walkin broadway tour? I dunno -- never took it) that took you backstage at a few select theatres.

Posted: 1/15/04 at 11:29amCJR: Well, we were kind of flagged down to come on in by Bernadette's assistant and her driver, so I don't think it was the stage door guy. But there was a guy standing by us, he was wearing and NYPD coat and he took our picture with Bernadette by the stairs just inside the door.
