I'm reposting this info from a previous thread:
Bare has been around for a long time. I first heard it about 7 years ago in LA when it was just a "concept". There have been a few recordings of it and there was a cast recording done from the production that was put up in LA after a very successful run. The composer, Damon Intrabartolo, works with film composor John Ottman and is the conductor for all his film projects (most recently X-Men 2).
The show is called a "pop opera" because many of the songs are pop songs, many being able to stand alone as singles. It focuses on two secret lovers, Peter and Jason, as they try to make their way through senior year in a private Catholic school. Jason has a twin sister named Nadia who provides most of the comic relief for the show. Peter is much more comfortable with his sexuality than Jason but keep their "best kept secret" hidden. Supporting characters include Lucas who keeps the teens supplied with party pills and raves. Ivy is the most popular girl in school and longs to have Jason and is willing to do anything to get him. She has an amazing ballad called: "Touch My Soul" that tears at your heart because you know she is in love with Jason, who is gay. Peter sings "See Me" in an attempt to come out to his mother who refuses to hear the news. Her showstopper is called: "Warning" which any parent sitting in the audience that has or think they have a gay child will relate to and most likely shed tears to.
The show focuses on a lot of issues facing the youth of today much as Rent touched upon the issues of its time. There isn't any HIV/AIDS subplots but there are issues of gay, straight, coming out, drugs, secret romances, popularity, the catholic church influence, and suicide.
There is a website: www.barethemusical.com, where you can see info on the LA cast. They haven't posted any info on the NYC cast but it includes John Hill and Adam Fleming to name a few.
This is a show I definitely have a passion for and love and I want to see it do well here.
Yeah I cried EVERY time..especially in " Warning" It made me run home and call my mom. After the first time I saw it I went to the actress who played Clair and hugged her and said thanks. My dad did the same when I took him to see it the next week.
