I'll bet they might bring it over if it does really well over there. It is a British show, not to say that Americans won't/wouldn't like it, but they might worry that it wouldn't do as well over in the US. (I not making judgments btw! Nobody attack me now!)
I hope personally that it rocks the UK and hgh tails it over to Broadway as soon as possible.

Posted: 3/10/05 at 9:53pmI would love for it to come here, of course. There always seem to be problems with bringing British actors over here, though, and I can't imagine them casting a bunch of Americans. Would Equity let up a little in this case?

Posted: 3/10/05 at 9:55pmIf the show does well, it's highly unlikely a new Elton John score would not find it's way to Broadway.

Posted: 3/10/05 at 10:12pmBritish has nothing to do with it. There is nothing specifically British in the story that Americans could not comprehend. The movie was a smash in the US and its theme is universal.

Posted: 3/11/05 at 12:44pmAgreed, it's not limited to being British. And good actors could pull off British pretty well if they wanted to (Taboo, anyone?). Besides, if we're basing this on MOVIE, The Full Monty ran on Broadway with a completely (maybe save a few Canadians?) American cast, set in America, when the movie was about as British as Billy Elliot.

Posted: 3/11/05 at 4:24pmi wonder how hard it would be to find a couple of kids here that could dance like that though. i mean if we don't bring the british actors over (probably won't), the audition process for billy elliot would be pretty crazy over here.

Posted: 3/11/05 at 4:31pmThey actually have a school set up in England to get new kids ready to replace the current kids. They look for raw talent that they can mold. They teach them everything. But there are so many talented kids anyway here in NY. Think of all the kids in some of the shows in the past few years... The Boy From Oz, Gypsy, and now Chitty
