Helloooo....so i am basically an intermediateish dancer...not a dancer first, but not a beginner either, and I'm looking to take classes at either Bway Dance Center or Steps (i'm a college student, but i live in westchester county during the summer...this is just for the summer).
I know Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway are considered to be the two best places for someone who is actually serious about pursuing this to go to...and I see they have all levels, so I'm not concerned at all about finding a class hard enough or easy enough.
Does anyone have any information that they have that is a good reason to work at one over the other? As of now, I would choose Steps ONLY because it's $15.50 for a single class and Broadway Dance Center is $18....but if there was a reason that BDC was worth the 2.50 more, then that's fine. I just want to know haha.
I think my biggest concern is I don't want to be in a class that is crazy crowded because I of course want as individual attention as possible so I can get critiqued and grow. I would most typically be going weekends and occassionally weeknights, but very very rarely weekdays during the day.....
so yeah, any info anyone has would be great!
singingshowgirl, i go to steps...i've tried broadway dance center, but i like the ballet teacher at steps better. (sullivan)
i know bdc is in transition right now with their moving studios, etc...you should give steps a try! (it is cheaper too )
BDC's new facilities are GORGEOUS. even if you don't want to take class, just go and look around. I'm personally a bigger Steps-goer, because I mostly take contemporary jazz and ballet (which I believe Steps is better for). BDC always gives me a touch of an LA vibe. However, I think their classes are cheaper now because of the move.
If you're worried about crowded classes, stay away from the master classes at BDC right now. Because they Just opened, they've got some really sought-after teachers. There were 50+ in Andy Blankenbuehler's class a couple weeks ago, and it wasn't even the big studio. Hope that helps!
thank you to both of you! that definitely does help and i think i am going to go one day next week to each. i called them both and they basically all answered my questions identically haha....bdc is a little more convenient because it's in mid-town and i get in at grand central, but they both sound great and i'm excited to hopefully no longer be intimidated by "dancers who sing" calls hahaha

Anyone familiar with the New Dance Group? Is it comparable to BDC and Steps?

I have never taken class at Steps, but I've been going to BDC for 2 years and I love it. The new studio is GORGEOUS. The classes are great, especially ballet and theatre. The class prices are back up to $18, though.
for me, bdc will be less expensive, though, because i'd have to take the subway to steps and i can walk to bdc. it sounds like they are both awesome. yay haha
BDC also has a work study program where you get a discounted class for every hour you work. I think the discount class price was like $5, but that could have changed isnce the class prices went up again.
I know a teacher at BDC and he is incredible! So assuming tha the rest of the classes are as good as his, you can't go wrong.
