I know that although Hot Feet hasn't officially posted a closing yet, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" has always booked the Hilton Theatre for a opening in mid november, so it is obvious that the producers, and the theatre owners know the end is near. Also "the producers" has been in and out of the sixties for the last few months.

Posted: 7/10/06 at 11:45pmProbably not now...but at this rate it's not going to be the long runner people thought it would be...we'll have to see what time gives us.

my heart skipped a couple beats when i saw in what danger sweeney and the wedding singer are in.
DAMN IT! it was doing so good that week after the tony's!! it has dropped drastically since then.
Two of my favoritest shows ever. I hope they don't close.
and what happened to Drowsy? It's in the 80s now! Whoa.

Posted: 7/11/06 at 4:13am80s is fine. I would be gratefully to have Wedding Singer at around 85%. 80s means that they are still making money. Unless their Sunset Blvd, as long as their in the upper arena of numbers, they'll be making a profit. And I'd say the Producers probably has a year or so left in it at the least. They've made a movie out of it, so why would you want to see the exact same thing that you've already seen with the exact same songs but with lesser known people?

Posted: 7/11/06 at 4:31amYeah, I was suprised when Drowsy broke a million. Now that was impressive. I remember back when they first announced to open at the Marquis theater, and everyone - including me - thought that they wouldn't be able to sell the theater, but we were wrong. I think they're doing healthy. It's a small show, so I think even slipping into the 70s probably wouldn't hurt them in the least. I mean look at Hot Feet, they're in the 30s and still running. It's not like they ever even broke the 60s.

Posted: 7/12/06 at 12:42amPerhaps Hot Feet will stay to play 100 performances and then close. I really dont see why they are keeping it open losing so much money.

Posted: 7/12/06 at 12:46amDo they plan on attempting to tour the show? If so, that might be why?

Posted: 7/12/06 at 1:45amI doubt they'll tour this show....but if they end up doing so, those are some crazy producers!

Don't forget, SWEENEY TODD has a relatively low break-even and having paid off its production costs back in Feb has probably built upa nice little reserve. Still those numbers seem awfully low for a show that has gotten such strong reviews, but thats always been the case. Theatre fans and critics love it.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 7/13/06 at 2:04amI actually think it has something to do with the season. I've said this before but I just find Sweeney - this production - to be a cold weather show. With it's dark color scheme, haunting music, and frightening story line, I don't think summer audiences are going to flock to this show. Pajama Game, Hairspray, etc. are more summer shows with their bright colors and poppy melodies.
