I will be coming to NYC to see some plays in early September...wooo hoooo FINALLY!!!

I will be coming from a week in the Catskills, so I will need to find a moderately priced, clean midtown hotel in Manhatten...is there such an animal? LOL!

Any recommendations??????

Thanks so much... broadway shows and hotels!!!!

Can you give some numbers that fit within the moderate price range?

"moderate" for midtwon Manhattan would be $120 to $150 a night.

There are a few $100 a night optons.

The Days Hotel is decently priced and on 48th and 8th. The rooms are pretty good, and if you really need to stay in that area of Manhattan, I'd go for that. Realize, though that you can get unlimited subway passes (daily or weekly), which would allow you to stay further for cheaper. Check out any of the discount hotel websites, they often have stuff for NYC. Good luck.

last year i stayed at the wellington... its a nice hotel and wasn't that expensive (like, 109 a night or something like that, unless the rates change)... its on 55th and 7th... not RIGHT IN the theater district, but its not too far of a walk... i'd say 10 min or so

I think The Edison Hotel is in the 100 dollar range. I've never stayed there, but it looks really nice.

I personally think that you can't go wrong trying Priceline for the quality of the hotels and the money. I have stayed at the Sheraton and Murray Hill East Suites for $100 a night. The only drawback is that you have to be sure when you are going because it is non refundable and it works better for two or less in a room. There is a webb site call biddingfortravel.com which helps you know how to get the best bids and shows what bids have been accepted recently.

Portland Square on 47th...just off Broadway...bare bones, but clean and cheap ..$90. for single with bath....$65...with shared bath if you are European or courageous.

Super 8 has taken over the Wellington on 46th between 5th and 6th...great free breakfast buffet...

Edsion...best location under $200...between 46-47 right off Broadway...thats where Luca Brazzi got his hand ice-picked in the Godfather.

Here are some useful links to find a hotel.
www.nycvisit.com
www.nyctourist.com
www.hotels.com
Manhattan East Suites has some nice moderate hotels in the City.
Check out the Beacon on the Upper West Side they are doing construction so they might offer cheap rates.
Have fun,

My Mom goes up to NYC several times a year, and always stays at the Edison. It is centrally located (1/2 block from the TKTS booth), and the rooms are clean and decent. A double room through their website is $150/nt for weekdays. You can do better with a hotels.com or one of the other brokers.

I stay with my brother when I go, because I don't mind dealing with an inflatable matress and a 3rd floor walkup.

Hot wire is also a good bet. I got a room at the club quarters on 47th for 75/ night!!! it was a nice hotel too and i lucked out with that one!! The only thing is you do not know what hotel you get you inly see the star rating, you choose a location (times square or midtown) and you see the price. they rated that as a 3 1/2 star hotel to give you an idea.

that's a great rate Karma for Club Quarters...
having lived and worked in the city for 20 years there are plenty of places to stay -- many of the hotels listed here are smack in the middle of the theater district and would be convenient to stroll to your show -- but please, see the rest of the city or stay in another neighborhood like Chelsea , the West Village or Upper West Side -- nothing beats Broadway, but tehre is so much more to this great city to do in between curtains!
Have Fun!
