hi i know i have done this message before but nobody here lisens i think that all musicals on broadway or off broadway or whereevery shows are being pformed are require to do a cast ablum eve if they are flops like good vibrations.
You're wrong. They're not required.
If you mean they SHOULD be required... that's arguable. Certainly there are lots of worthy pieces of musical theater that go unrecorded, and it's a shame. That's because musical theater albums don't make their production companies enough money... sales aren't widespread enough at this day in age. While some recordings do very well for themseleves, musical theater albums are not too bankable overall.
Not EVERY show ever made everywhere could OR should be recorded... that would be like saying every Joe Schmo with a band in his garage should be recorded. However, I see what you're saying: definitely theater recordings are wonderful, and should be recorded, if they have merit, regardless of potential financial gain. In a perfect world.
If you had a American Musical Theater Museum funded by the goverment ( as opposed to studying the effects of cow flatulence or how bees have sex etc)you could have every score recorded for posterity
Good point, Mr. Roxy!
This is still a really good point - I haven't heard anyone post this before, especially bryan - I'm shocked.
I really wish they would make multiple cast recordings so those of us who can't see the show can keep up with the current cast and hear the different varieties. For example, people like myself only have the OBC to listen to for RENT even though its been almost 10 years now since they have performed for Broadway and those of us who cant go see the show would like the be up to date on whos performing as who. Though unfortunately its understandable WHY they cant logically record every show. I certainly wish they could (would love to have an official equity recording of LSoH) but sadly that would be unlogical.
