#1cats, could it be revived any time soon?
Posted: 12/2/07 at 6:52pmi was watching broadway: the american musical & saw the cats segment & it made me think...could the show revived in the next maybe 5 years or so? they revived les miz quickley, & a chorus line in 16 so it could be possible.

The reason why they revived Les Miserables after three years was to celebrate it becoming the longest running west end show.
There was a thread from a while back that spoke about how someone was at Linclon Center and saw a casting call announcement for a revival of Cats. There also has been talk of when Mamma Mia closes to revive cats and bring it back to the Winter Garden.
Personally, I think that the world is a better happier place knowing that this show is no longer playing on Broadway or London.

I never say never, but I don't think it's likely.
Plus, it tours constantly.

Posted: 12/2/07 at 7:09pmYes, and they plan to set it in a Jellicle School, and have two Grizabellas, and the people will only pretend to be cats, and....oh, wait a minute.

I hope it comes back with an ALL male cast.
That would at least make Memory interesting.

Well, think about it this way.
Mr. Webber is writing a sequel to PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. If he has his way, it WILL go to Broadway. While the original is still running.
Now just imagine him then announcing that he will also revive CATS on Broadway in the near future.
There's no question that he would be assassinated within a few days.
P.S. Isn't the public sick of the British Mega-Musical (aside from PHANTOM, which will die when Broadway does) by now? Given how much they've embraced comedy in the last decade, like (paraphrasing Brantley's review of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE) starving plants just given water again?
P.P.S. And I like CATS.

I think the public doesn't like british mega musicals that they are not firmillier with. When the Les Miserables revial opened there were many people who flocked to it because of what it was.
I just think that they don't like that kind of musical if they are uknown to it example would the The Pirate Queen.
I was talking to a couple of members in the cast last time I saw Phantom about Phantom II and even they thought it was a bit much.

Aren't they testing the current "re-imagining" at the Willows in Concord to be the concept of the revival?
