Hi... I know that picking a college should be my choice, but i would love some feedback... i'm accepted to Point Park, Wagner and Univ of the Arts all with great scholarships... but not Marymount college help please... pt park, wagner or univ of arts?

Anyway, my mind was set on MM and since i'm not accepted I have to choose another school.. Univ of the arts seemed really cool when i went but i want your guys opinions... what do YOU think is the best school for musical theater and why?? what have you heard? i want my voice to get very stronger.. i want to become a great actor lol, and work on the dancing... but i also want to have fun... learn alot but enjoy my time... you know? so any feedback would be great.

We can't really help you to help yourself choose a school. Are you pretty familiar with the way each of those three schools' programs are run? If so, which one best fits you and which one do you think you'd feel most at home in?

i can't even think straight right now... cant even explain how i'm feeling.

i just want to know what others feel, what's more respected, what's best for musical theater, etc..

It really is a decision you'll have to make for yourself. One thing you should do, if you haven't already, is to compare the curriculum of all three and see which is best suited to what you want. Have you visited all three? Which campus and facilities did you like best? How do the dorms compare? What other courses are you able to take? Have you talked to current students at each? See if each school has a lj community where you can get firsthand info. I know it's hard to be rejected from your first choice school but I have to agree that all of those schools are better schools than MMC. I'm surprised you didn't get in if you were accepted to the others. Weird. Good luck with your decision.

i have visited all of the schools. I live by Point park and take voice and acting there...so that's basically my last choice. I wanted to live in NYC so badly, and i know that is a bad reason to go to college, but i just felt like i needed to escape. University of the Arts seemed really nice, i liked the location, the teachers seemed really cool and they were the only college that gave me a lot of feedback... Wagner, i really wasn't feeling it... i don't like the location at all. but today, when i found out iwas rejected to MM, the theater proffesor from Wagner called my house and wanted to talk to me because he was impressed with my audition...
i'm just so confused right now.. i've never been so hard on myself before. what did i do wrong at marymounttt

Don't beat yourself up over it. Perhaps you just didn't "shine" on your audition day for MMC. Obviously, if you were accepted into three musical theatre programs, you're doin' something right. Some people can't even get in to one! Be proud of yourself and choose what you think is right.

Don't kill yourself over it.

Having look at MM, it was not even in my final considerations. I didn't think it was solid. But if you really want it, why can't you reaudition? Don't they have another audition round. Or wait out the year and try again next year.

Univ of Arts looks fine. I wouldn't even consider Wagner in the same ranks of the other schools.

As someone who currently attends Marymount Manhattan, and who checked out all the schools you mentioned, I would completely disagree with those that feel the other schools have better, or more solid theatre programs. Please, I'm not just saying this because I go to MMC - I'm the FIRST to make fun of the school and point out it's flaws - the the University of the Arts is just commercial drivel - it's terrible, and (not to knock your talent AT ALL,) but they accept literally EVERYONE. Wagner is better than U of the Arts, but Wagner just rubbed me the wrong way. Although I was accepted there, I never considered it because i have many theatre major friends there that all hate it - but that's heresy, I wouldn't NOT reccomend a school based on what I heard. Pt. Park is only a conservatory....so....if you go there, you better be DAMN sure that you're good enough to succeed. You don't want to go through all that money and years of school there to find out you're not going to find work as an actor. Even though I'm the first to admit that the thought of academics to a theatre major is sickening, out of the 3 schools you listed, I would go with Wagner, simply because you can ALWAYS have something to fall back on, while getting great theatre training. Plus, it's 20 minutes away from Manhattan, the center of theatre. I would go with Wagner....definitely NOT UArts, if it were my choice.

Don't worry about not getting in to your first choice...I didn't & I'm doing great. Everything works out for the best. If you believe in a Higher power....there's a reason you didn't get in. However, my best friend is at UArts & she LOVES it! It's a great school, in a great city. Pt Park's okay, I have a friend there too. She likes it, but she's more into tech & directing.

Hope this helps. PM me if you want their email addresses....they can probably help you more with the school info

Yet Wagner was voted Best Theatre Program in that Princeton Review. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure it was, and it got that because the feedback the students gave about the program. So they seem like they enjoy it.

well if you go to uarts then you'll get to see plenty of tours (the three theaters near it all host tours) and may well run into the one and only me (i don't go there but hang out in that neighborhood all the time)

Wagner voted "Best Theater Program" in the Princeton Review?

Yeah right. Let Yale, Julliard, U of Michigan, and UCLA know that.

It wasn't voted best theater program. See folks, this is how rumors begin. I have a few suggestions of what Wagner could be voted but I can't print them here.

i dont know how Wagner could get voted that, because I saw Chess and left during intermission... that's why I don't know if i want to go there and am leaning towards UArts.

UArts doesnt accept everyone, one girl who I met at MM kicked ass and didnt get in UArts.. Another girl I know got in Syracuse and not Uarts.. so your comment about them accepting literally everyone isnt correct

Okay, the official wording from the Princeton Review was that Wagner was number one for "Great College Theatre". So it's not necessarily the best theatre program, but it's 'great college theatre'.

As a current student of Wagner college, I must say that it is a wonderful school and provides a great theatre program. And by the way, Princeton did rate Wagner as the #1 extracurricular theatre program in the country. Do your research, look it up. What did you not like about Chess? I've seen my share of college theatre shows and I think Wagner far surpasses others I have seen in talent and overall performance. Chess as itself is a troubled show, but I have yet to meet a more talented group of college students on a stage.

Besides this, Wagner is a typical college experience 20 minutes from Manhattan. I go in at least a couple times a week to rush shows. I've hardly felt swamped with classwork and since its liberal arts, the teachers are really laid back.

So, don't post bogus things about Wagner because its an amazing school. You can't comment on something until you've experienced it, and from someone experiencing it I can say without hesitation that Wagner kicks ass.

"So, don't post bogus things about Wagner .."

Oh...but it's ok that someone posts bogus info that Wagner is the number one program?

Considering one of your "proud" alumni Randi Graff didn't enjoy her time there, that'll tell ya something.

Okay then, on the subject of colleges I've got two questions:
1) I am going to Roger Williams Univeristy in Bristol, RI, next year. They have an awesome theatre program what I've seen and heard, but then again, I'm a silly ol' Rhode Islander, and I'm wondering if anyone has heard differently or the same?
2)My boyfriend wants to do theatre too, and has been accepted to Coe College in Iowa (of all places! heehee) and really really wants to go to Ithaca. He also got accepeted to Arcadia in Philly, and says if Ithaca rejects him, he wants to to to Coe instead. Now, can anyone tell me anything they know of Coe and the theatre program there or whether it'd be really really dumb for him to go to Iowa for theatre when he has the opportunity to study in Philly instead? Thanks.

Mr. Tuttle, you seem to hate Wagner a lot...why? I attend The Wag and its been a really worthwhile experience. Just because one Wagner graduate didn't like the program doesn't mean its a bad school. There are always people who don't gel with the professors or don't like the campus or have unpleasant experiences at EVERY school. Not just ours. So, don't use someone else's opinion to discredit a program.

"Oh...but it's ok that someone posts bogus info that Wagner is the number one program?"

http://www.wagner.edu/communications/pr.html

Scroll all the way to the bottom.

I'm sure that Wagner is just itching to post more illegal stuff staying that they're rightfully won something that they actually didn't win, right? And if Randy Graff hated the program, according to you, I'm sure she would discredit it as helping her learn technique and such to getting her where she is now? Gimme a break. Or Kathy Brier, who recently starred in Hairspray and even came back to do a workshop with students here?

I honestly don't understand your own animosity towards a college which you've never experienced yourself. Your illogical hatred based on a couple opinions from people you've only read about (as I'm assuming this) should not be able to give such a nasty view on a college that has offered so much to me and everyone else.

Have you even set foot on this campus? Have you experienced a class here with some of the most innovative and engaging professors I've yet to meet? Have you spent a couple hours hanging out with students here who just as friendly and nice as anyone else you'd meet who share my exact same opinion, like the person who posted after me?

This ends my rant. After all, a college is what you make of it.
