current Roger in RENT

I keep hearing rumors that Cary Shields is out of the show right now with some sort of sickness, and that he won't be back for a while. Can anyone confirm/deny this rumor? I'm going in to see it Sunday, and I don't want to miss him.

If he is out, who is playing his part (and is he good?)

Do you know how long he is scheduled for rent? I am seeing it late december (around new years actually) and was wondering how long he would be there?

I feel like Cary's schedule changes every other day. I think I heard January, but who knows?

Cary? He's there until late January I believe. I hope I get to see him before he leaves. (Wish he would take Matt with him though...)

Cary's been out for about a month although it's rumored that he'll be back on Monday. If you see Jay, you won't be disappointed. I've seen Cary many times and Jay's performance is every bit as enjoyable.

He has an open-ended contract, so who knows? I mean, he's been with the show for 6 years! Ah! I saw him in the Benny days, and he was great, but I've just heard such bad things about what he's been doing the past few months.

Cary posted on his board today that he is planning on coming back Monday the 14th. Cant wait to see him back on stage. As far as we know he is contracted till sometime in January. but Shields may re-sign again.

I agree about the Matt comments. He has been there for so long and his performances are getting really drab because I think deep down he is bored...so I was extremely bored watching him.

roger is my dream role...
yeah, my voice coach said i have a voice almost identical to norbert leo butz's, and he was an understudy for roger, so...its destiny!

Cary has been pretty ill for a while now, he's said himself that he sould be back on Monday.

I believe he's leaving the show sometime late January.

And, I may be in the minority, but I actually liked Matt a lot. I thought he was funny, and he's got a great voice.

i love Matt Caplan, and every time I go see RENT it's dumb luck that Cary is never there, although I did see him the first time I went, but I didn't stage door. I'm so determined to meet him! :). I do enjoy Jay's roger though..and hes sucha a cutie!

I loved Matt when I saw him, but that was 2001. And I've heard Matt as Roger and Mark too, and I think he sounds great. It's just the past few months I've heard that he seems really bored, and he tried to overly camp things up.

I can't really comment on it since I haven't seen him since 2001, but everyone seems to be in agreement that it's time for him to move on.

hopefully i'm going in january for my birthday (before he leaves). If I miss him, I might just have a hearattack. I wonder who will replace him when he does leave. I'm guessing Jay?

I won lottery for Rent on Monday night and I saw Jay and he was very good. No complaints. He was very into the character and his voice was very strong. I have seen Sheild's in it too, and I havent had a bad Rodger experiance yet! 0 out of 8 aint bad.

Matt was hysterical! I've seen him a bunch of times but this time was by far the best! During Tango Maureen I was dying! The dance moves he did and the "poses" cracked me up as well as himself and Merle. They couldnt stop laughing on stage! Maybe someone told him that he was possibly slackin so he picked it up again. But in my opinon, he was very energetic and into the role. His voice was strong also.

but everyone has their opinions so im not gonna knock anyone!

I saw Matt 5 months ago and he has a great voice, don't get me wrong and he is fun as Mark, but he has lost that "refreshing quality" I guess you could say. After six years, it is hard to do something new with a role and the things he is trying aren't too pretty.

From what I have been told, Jay is really great as Roger, so don't worry if you see him. He is fun.

I just saw someone say that Jay was the best Roger they'd ever seen.

I'm torn. I hope I get to see Cary in January, because I've fallen in love with him through footwear, but I'm really curious about Jay now.
