Haha oh dear that video is HYSTERICAL. But apparently it works. My friend who has seen the show more then I have (which is...a lot)
saw the lift break down a few months ago on the road (1st National) and said that the overall experience was no different then other viewings. Yea, it was apparent that SOMETHING went wrong because the actress playing Elphaba (Jackie I believe? Maybe not, I'll have to ask him) did her cue lines "Its not her!" very oddly, almost like she was trying to do something while saying her lines and when the spot came up on her for the first "its me" it caught her fussing around with the clamp around her and then instead of rising up she flung her arms to the side and sang "So if you" in the lift before finally breaking free and running downstage. So basically, it was evident from the spot catching the entire lift mechanism behind her that she was meant to fly. But he said the audience still went ape *#*$ over it and people still raved during intermission. Its truly a magical moment in theater, the story..the music and everything just combine to create a very dramatic moment. Maybe others on here don't see it, but plenty do.
ALSO...not saying that if you don't like it then you are wrong...its just not your taste. Just want to clarify that.
Galveston2 -- the lady with the candy wrappers was in front of me and to the left and I still have whiplash from the number of times my head snapped at her crinkling! I heard audience renditions of portions of "Broadway Baby" and "I'm Still Here." Now, I SHOULD have been prepared . . . . it was a Wednesday matinee. I just am astounded that people will spend money for theatre, fight their way into the city and act like a bunch of rejects from the casting of Jersey Shore.
The only Broadway show I know of that mentions the wrappers in their pre-show announcement is Jersey Boys, but I could be wrong. They also say it before Sons of the Prophet.
^^^
Wicked asks you to unwrap any candy and Anything Goes mentions Life Savers... but I know I've heard it quite a few times...
"Apparently she wasn't fastened in properly and the lift started to go up - I can only imagine how scary that must be! The show was stopped and a few minutes later started again sans lift. "
She wasn't in at all, she entered the lift sideways and (apparently hit the trigger, so) it locked her in when she wasn't actually in, and began to rise. The show was stopped for 40 mins before it resumed. But boy, did Kerry sing the hell out of Defying Gravity that night.
The actual audio is quite frightening.
