MAN, HOW BAD WAS THIS MUSICAL?!
It opened in September, right?
My god...I've never seen it but I heard it was real bad.

Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky. With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high! Blood-red were the spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat, when they shot him down on the highway, down like a dog on the highway, and he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat... (The Highwayman. Sung by: Loreena McKennitt)

Woah, how depressing. There's a virtual slaughter of shows this month, but my only plans are to see Democracy.

I juts saw Wicked from there. It's a lil hard to see some of the action that occurs at the front of the stage but It was still fantastic.

To the person that brought up Brooklyn, it's not going to close soon. I just saw it on Wed. and it had a sold out crowd, and when I spoke to Ramona Keller at the stage door, she stated that the show is very close to gaining back it's investment, as it had already gained money during previews in Denver. It was an awesome show, no matter what the critics say.

Wha? If Keller is right, I'm extremely surprised. The Denver production cost money, too, and even if it was profitable I can't imagine it contributed a whole lot to recouping the overall investment.

She could have been exaggerating, but the show is not that elaborate. I don't think it would cost as much as normal shows. The only thing that might have cost a bit would be the large brick wall structure, which could be an illusion who knows. But with such a small cast and less people employeed with the show, I wouldn't be shocked if the news was true.

I don't doubt the show has low weekly costs, but still...even a cheap musical takes a while to recoup. It seems a bit far-fetched to think that Brooklyn, which has hardly had stellar ticket sales, will make back its investment so soon. It hasn't even hit 100 performances.

What my question is, is how come attendence is listed at around 39% and people are reporting sold out crowds?

Papering?

Edit: I am refering to Brooklyn.

I guess one individual performance can be sold out and the overall attendance for the week can still be low. And even shows that weren't selling well probably got good crowds this week. The city was absolutely packed to the gills. Updated On: 1/2/05 at 12:30 AM

Gills?

I can see it doing good on weekends and not to hot on Tuesdays, but low enough to make the average at 39%?
