yayyyy!!!!!
so, as you may or may not know, the R&H musical classic, FLOWER DRUM SONG, has recently been released to dvd!!
now, this is especially exciting to me, as i grew up watching this musical, and i went to buy it recently and was told by many that it was out of print. =( !!!! so, naturally i was devastated! however; i just discovered this wonderful film has been remastered and as i said, re-released onto dvd, with great special features no less!
very exciting!
i definitely suggest purchasing this, it is really very fantastic, and definitely something every musical theatre lover should have in their collection! =D

why what?
do you live in a cave?

Not unless you consider an exact replication of the Harmonia Gardens Restaurant a cave . . .
I, too, have always loved the movie. I just wish I could see it onstage. I was on line at TKTS and had planned to see it, but by the time I got to the ticket booth, it was gone, so I saw the revival of Dinner at Eight at Lincoln Center instead.

Im actually writing a paper about this musical. It's quite interesting, with all its faults, and it has many, politically as well as theatrically, but its a wonderful look at american society through the eyes of "the other" and it should make great writing.

Private note to DramaQueen2 (no one else should read this!):
I do NOT live in a cave. I live in an exquisitely appointed home--and the mortgage is paid off.
Caves are for hermits and subhuman creatures. I'm neither.
agreed fenchurch and pierce!
dearest dolly,
i'm so glad you are aware of those things.. congratulations! and i'm glad you feel the need to let us all know! how nice! i am also so relieved to know that YOUR home is "exquisitely appointed" ! i know i will be able to sleep easy tonight! phew!
....
clearly, your first comment was pointless, i have yet to understand why you would ask me 'why', if only to be snide and curt, neither of which is appreciated by anyone on these boards. so i am going to give you a word of advice that you should've heard when you were 6, 'treat others how you wish to be treated.' an amazing philosophy, no?
but dolly, i will humor you. why? because it is a lovely piece of musical theatre that entertains and pleases audiences. it makes them think and consider different aspects of the world. it evokes emotion and hits home to some people, and gives others a warm fuzzy feeling. and i was sharing this news with you, because you people are lovers of good theatre as am i, and thinking of myself, "wow, i really love this, maybe others will too!" i was spreading the word. so i'm sorry if you don't understand that. but dolly darling, that is why. i hope you understand a bit better now.
everyone else- hope you enjoy this! =)

Have you ever bothered to learn the rules of capitalization? Or did you sleep through that, too?

You spelled "omniscient" correctly. There's hope for you after all!
See, you have taught me after all!
Don't doubt me so much sweetheart! Have a little faith!
Back to FLOWER DRUM SONG. I love the film. It is my second favorite R&H film. The DVD is wonderful, and LONG overdue.

Just a little correction for the original poster: The film has never been on DVD before this - therefore it's never been OOP and this is not a rerelease - this is its first release on DVD and it's excellent.

I also adore this film. So happy it's out on dvd. They also re-released a bunch of other R&H musicals with amazing extras.
Even if you already have them it's worth the double dip.
They come in a boxed set, or individually.
"snide and curt" is a
constant here. I've had
odd, smartass comments
aimed at me for no reason
at all. Almost every
message board on the net
is someone's venue for
venting bitterness. Just
laugh at it.
I love how a simple thread can turn into a catfight.
MEOW!!
