May I suggest to you a wonderfully irreverent yet unbelievably informing website called:

Here, you will find some of the worst performances ever put on tape at an opera house..

Like opera legend, Anna Moffo, zonked out of her mind, singing the mad scene from “Lucia di Lammermoor”…this famous performance was broadcast to homes everywhere thanks to Texaco.. If you listen closely you’ll even hear the orchestra react to her umm.... slurring.....I mean, singing…

Or America’s Opera Sweetheart, Renee Fleming, destroying “over the rainbow”

Or Franco Bonisolli defending his decision, mid performance no less, to hold on to a high note…the shout of “gigone” is priceless….

This stuff is priceless …and anyone can enjoy it..

On the other hand,

He also puts mp3 up on the DEMENTED page of what makes opera GREAT!

My favorite is a very young Renata Scotto in the finale of "La Sonnumbala"...

Her amazing singing..and the reaction of the audience at the end of it ...well....

it still gives me chills..no matter how often I have heard it...

It always made me wonder what it must feel like to be so great, so brilliant, that people can't wait four more bars to applaud and bravo you....
