wow, lensman, i don't really know. But, I've been told from people who don't specifically like musical theatre, that that is the genreral problem of american musical theatre. Its just too honkey dorey, and always ends on an upbeat. I can hear both arguments but it sucks that when musicals do take a more serious and contraversial repore they never make it very far. i.e. parade.

In my opinion, German musicals are so rich in content and emotion. I hope that they will actually bring the original Tanz Der Vampire to Broadway so the people can see the real and truely amazing version of Dance Of The Vampires. Elizabeth and Mozart have some of the most AMAZING music ever written for the musical theatre stage....If you get the chance, I would highly recommend buying either one of the CD's, they are well worth the cost, and are both amazing.....You'll LOVE them!!!

Oh and simplywill, I do have to agree with you, Parade was a wonderful musical, and I wish it would have run much longer than it did!

Ah, Miriam, thanks for reminding us of Lehar and Strauss. I do love The Merry Widow.
And if anyone wants to catch it, The Met will be airing it at the beginning of next year as its final Texaco Telecast. The end of an era.
