Posted: 7/9/04 at 11:10pmWow, that's very interesting that you can do something that's humanly impossible. Belting refers to the laryngeal manipulation that makes the female mix sound like a full chest (the larynx tilts forward to change the resonance spot in the head). Men don't have the same type of chest and head voice that women do, and what women have to do to get that sound, men get anyway (that's why the sound in men always have that brighter/heavier tone, never the light fluffy like a soprano). A lot of people think the falsetto is the equivalent of the female head voice, but the male head voice is actually something very different, and the break between head and chest isn't prominant like it is in women. Therefore, you can't belt b/c that's just singing. Plus the larynx in men isn't capable of doing that.
